[slowspeedwire] Santa Fe Time: Train Dispatcher St Augustine Texas

Neat photo…
Train dispatcher? Naaah!
Depot agent/operator…..Yeah.
Dig the peg-strap switchboard and switches and stuff ….
Ed FB
Nice photo.
Shorpy can be forgiven for not knowing the difference between an agent/operator and dispatcher. LOL
He's clearly in a small agency, with three circuits, one of which is likely DS, the other a message wire and a third WU wire.
He's got a pretty good file of WU messages too, so his agency is seeing some commercial business.
Thanks for sharing!
I'd love to have that clock.
It's a good
one.
JW
I would like to have that clock too !
Some interesting stuff on the wall there by the switchboard…
The obligatory 60AP DS telephone selector case, with bells.
I see what are probably “cut” switches for the DS telephone ckt both didrections , carbon block arrestors, and those two long spiral wound gizmos are probably lightning chokes in the phone circuit. .
The switchboard shows wires 103 and 104 cut in, with “cutout” pegs pre-positioned to cut out both wires at the bottom.
Something on the right has been snipped off, probably originally went to the third set of vertical bars.
There is an odd wire on that third set of bars on the “north” side and some white markings showing how that could be ”trunked” over to 103North there on the bottom row of horizontals.
I cant quite figure out what the hell that is there next to the fancy clock case bottom right finial though…..maybe a simplex coil, and the circular dinguses night be tappable inductances..but I don’t know.
With that upper DPDT switch on the wall in the “open position”, and the view of the wiring, that might be a setup to put one of the Morse wires (maybe 103North as indicated on the switchboard) over onto the telephone pair as a simplex circuit, in case of some need.
Fascinating, nonetheless…

Did anyone notice the extra row of keys at the bottom of the typewriter?
What
are those for?
N0PME
I
didn't, but I noticed the mass of spider webs in the top right corner
of the photo.
I'll
bet the walls were originally white.

Spider webs a real mosquito trap and other small flying objects, have a few here in the shack.

Hello Friends
The March 22 report from Tamitha Skov:
Solar storming has subsided momentarily, but a coronal hole connected to the one that sent us fast wind last week is still very much a part of the picture.
